Watson set for high-speed Thruxton

Andrew Watson is set for the next chapter in his debut Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship campaign as he and his CarStore Power Maxed Racing team head for the high-speed Thruxton Circuit this weekend (3-4 June). Andrew's maiden campaign in the UK's premier motorsport series began with a fantastic debut weekend at Donington Park last month where Andrew achieved an Independent victory and took home the Jack Sears Trophy. Two tough rounds have followed, at Brands Hatch and Snetterton, but the Northern Irishman is confident that he can get back to front-running form this weekend at Thruxton. The 2.4-mile Hampshire venue, once an RAF base and still an active airfield to this day, offers one of the most daunting challenges for drivers on the ten-event BTCC schedule. Relentless high-speed corners leave drivers with little to no room for error as they push for lap times with their car on a knife edge around the UK's fastest circuit. Andrew heads for Thruxton currently occupying P19 in the drivers' standings (17 points), P7 in the Independents Trophy standings (86 points), and P5 in the Jack Sears Trophy standings (109 points). Looking to reignite his Jack Sears Trophy challenge, Andrew Watson believes he and the team can bring back the fight to the competition this weekend: “After a tricky weekend at Snetterton, it’s time to reset and go again. I’m looking forward to being back out in the CarStore Power Maxed Racing Astra at Thruxton, with the aim of getting back in the mix for the Jack Sears Trophy. “Qualifying will be important to start us off on the front foot, and from there, it’s a circuit I enjoy and I believe we can be competitive at.” Saturday will begin with two free practice sessions before qualifying at 15:25 (BST). For this weekend, the normal qualifying format remains with a 30-minute timed session to set the grid for the opening race which can be watched live on YouTube. All three races take place on Sunday, with live coverage available on ITV4 or online. The races are scheduled for 11:25 (BST), 14:35 and 17:15 respectively. Live timing across the weekend is available here.
