Watson prepped for Shanghai debut

Andrew Watson will continue his maiden World Endurance Championship campaign this weekend as he heads to Shanghai, China, for the third round of the 2019/20 season - the 4 Hours of Shanghai.

Heading to China for the third round of the season, Andrew Watson’s start to life in the World Endurance Championship saw him narrowly miss out on a podium finish at the opening round at Silverstone before a more challenging round was experienced by Andrew and his teammates at Fuji Speedway, Japan.

Racing alongside Mike Wainwright and Ben Barker in the Gulf Racing #86 Porsche 911 RSR, the team will be looking to be back in the fight for podium honours in the GTE Am class this weekend at the 3.388-mile Shanghai International Circuit.

The team have had mixed results in Shanghai in previous years, finishing as runners-up in 2017 before encountering a more difficult race in 2018 as they came home classified 9th in the GTE Am class.

“I’m really excited for this weekend, it’s my first time racing in Shanghai and I can’t wait to get started. The team ran really well here in 2017, so we’ll all be pushing to try to replicate another strong result this weekend. The competition is really high in our class so we’ll need to be firing on all cylinders to have a successful weekend.”

The race weekend gets underway on Friday with free practice at 03:00 (GMT). Qualifying for the GTE Am class takes place on Saturday at 06:00, with the race getting underway on Sunday at 04:00.
