Andrew Watson joins D'station Racing for 2021 FIA WEC campaign

MB Partners are delighted to announce that 26 year old, Andrew Watson, will join D'station Racing with TF Sport to race the #777 Aston Martin Vantage AMR GTE, alongside teammates Satoshi Hoshino and Tomonobu Fujii, in the 2021 FIA World Endurance Championship LMGTE Am class and the 89th Edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

26 year old Andrew Watson brings a wealth of endurance racing experience to the team having competed in high-level GT machinery since 2015 and most recently competed in the 2019/20 FIA WEC - securing a podium in his debut season along with a 5th place finish in his first Le Mans 24 Hour.

Last year also saw Andrew compete in a title challenge for Silver Cup honours in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup, securing one win and two podiums - as well as finishing on the Silver Class podium at last year’s Bathurst 12 Hours.

His resume also includes experience driving in major endurance races such as the Daytona 24 Hours and Spa 24 Hours. Andrew’s knowledge of Aston Martin machinery, as well as the FIA WEC, will be a great addition to the team having raced in the British marques’ cars since 2019.

Delighted with the opportunity to be back on the FIA WEC grid, Andrew sees the team as a great fit for him in 2021.

"It's really exciting to have the chance to join D'station Racing and TF Sport! When you combine their professionalism, expertise and ambition it's a great fit. I'm really impressed with the way both teams are going about this season's preparations.

It's great to be back on the WEC grid for a second season to continue building my experience and helping to deliver a successful debut campaign for D'station. I'm also looking forward to continuing to work with AMR, as i've been racing in their GT3 customer cars for a few years now.

I'd really like to thank everyone at D'station and TF Sport for this incredible opportunity, which I'm very grateful for. I will be working hard to deliver strong results for the team to build this relationship further into the future."

D’station has campaigned Aston Martin machinery in SUPER GT’s GT300 class for the last two seasons, but is now making the step up to worldwide competition and will contest the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2021 in association with TF Sport.

Tomonobu Fujii, D'station Racing Team Managing Director, sees Andrew’s as a big asset to the team in 2021.

“We are looking forward to working with Andrew for our 2021 World Endurance Championship program. He has valuable experience of previously competing in the WEC and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. He will be a big asset to our team. We would like to thank world-renowned F1 driver, Mark Blundell for recommending Andrew.”

Mark Blundell, CEO of MB Partners, added:

“This is a great opportunity for Andrew to continue competing at the highest levels of GT racing and he will be a great asset to the D’station Racing with TF Sport team. We are all extremely confident Andrew will do a fantastic job and help the team progress with his talent and experience.”

Due to the COVID-19 global pandemic and travel restrictions, the 89th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans has been rescheduled in an attempt to potentially allow spectators by scheduling it for a later date. Additionally, the opening race for the WEC in Portimao (Portugal) will also be rescheduled. The opening race for the WEC will now be in Spa (Belgium) on May 1st.
