Watson set for a thrilling weekend at Portimão

Andrew Watson and the D’station Racing team head to Portugal for this weekend’s 8 Hours of Portimão, the second round of the 2021 FIA World Endurance Championship.

The team’s maiden race in the top-tier of endurance racing at Spa-Francorchamps in April saw them claim a top-ten finish with seventh place in the LMGTE Am class. Andrew is excited to build on their positive start at the wheel of the #777 Aston Martin Vantage AMR GTE this weekend.

Whilst the Portimão circuit may be a new addition to WEC this season, Andrew can call on previous experience of the 4.684km circuit following the European Le Mans Series season finale in 2020.

“I’m looking forward to getting back in the car,” Andrew said. “We had a really positive start to the year in Belgium and our aim is to build on that and push ourselves even further. I really enjoyed the track when I was here last year, it has that old school feel with the fast bends and the undulations. It’s a long race too so we need to make sure we maximise everything we’ve got on Sunday.”

Andrew will take to the track on Friday afternoon for the first Free Practice session at 15:00. A further two Free Practice sessions will follow on Saturday at 09:35 and 14:00 before Qualifying sets the grid order for the race at 18:00. Race day will commence at 11:00 on Sunday morning, with the race running through the day to 19:00 in the evening.

All of the action will be available to watch on Eurosport, stream live through the official FIA WEC app or follow through live timing on the FIA WEC website.
